One would have thought that obtaining such favorable benefits (e.g., the
ability to self-medicate) would have long ago selected for full
bipedalism in elephants!  ;-)

Berry-eating birds get pickled.  A gaggle of drunk sauropods would have
been a sight to behold (when viewed from a distant vantage point, of
course).
