Based on the bedding matrices of the various specimens that Czercaks
described years ago, many of the specimens (which were collected without
stratigraphic or geographic data and were attributed generally to the Yixian
and then later sold to Czerckas with this information, which he copied
faithfully) the beds are greyish to brown stones littered with plant and seed
remnants, and this is true for the Daohugou fossils, so this is not saying
much. The nature of *Scansoripteryx* (possible -- probable -- synonym of
*Epidendrosaurus*) has allowed several people to suspect it comes from the
Daohugou beds, but no proof is currently available. Until then, provenance
should be marked with a "?", in my opinion.
