It might be better to treat _Syntarsus rhodesiensis_ and _Syntarsus kayentakatae_ as separate OTUs. _Syntarsus rhodesiensis_ (from southern Africa, type species for _Syntarsus_ and _Megapnosaurus_)
It is the type for the latter, but the type for the former is a beetle species (which I don't happen to know the epithet of).
is so close to _C. bauri_ that recent studies have referred _S. rhodesiensis_ to _Coelophysis_ (Downs, 2000; Bristowe and Raath, 2004). For one thing, the alleged 'narial fenestra' of _S. rhodesiensis_ appears not to exist.
_S. kayentakatae_ (Arizona) may be referrable to _Coelophysis_ too. However, unlike _C. rhodesiensis_, it does have those paired crests - which, although similar to those of _Dilophosaurus_ are much less prominent.
Could they all be _Coelophysis_ or might _S. kayentakatae_ get a new genus? -- T. Michael Keesey The Dinosauricon: http://dino.lm.com Parry & Carney: http://parryandcarney.com
