No one yet has attempted a species-based cladistic
analysis seeking bat ancestors that also included fossil taxa.

That is AFAIK true.

When they do, the closest sister taxon (taxa) will
nest next to bats. And then you'll know.

I bet that whatever the closest known relative to bats is, it is "the tooth, the whole tooth, and nothing but the tooth", so we'll have to fear about long-branch attraction...


(In fact, some end-Paleocene teeth from Wyoming have been suggested to be around the ancestry of bats in an SVP meeting abstract.)

Now I know that's not true. That species-based cladistic analysis is
now 6 years old. Still unchallenged.
