I know (I'm a member and not even a Master yet). However, if we count the 
professional vertebrate paleontologists who aren't members, and if we count 
the students as future professionals, 2,000 vertebrate paleontologists in 
the world sounds like a good number. 82,000 paleontologists in total is 
probably far too much, but it's in the right order of magnitude. :-)
