As I point out in Dinosaurs of the Air, ornithopods probably paralleled
mammals in developing a diaphragm driven lung system because they share a
similar
lumbar region (while lacking all the avian attributes found in saurischians).
As for other ornithischians there is nothing living with similar trunk
complexes and it is difficult to tell what was going on, Perry may well be
correct.
