In fairness to Kris, he said 1-2 m/s, not 1-2 km. But I remember
Slingerland et al saying mean annual wind was about twice that, 7-8 knots,
which is quite a blast considering that it was their prediction of mean
wind 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.
