Re: P.S. to: Kong 2005 - A Big......Disappointment....why?...le t me count the ways...

The scenes you refer to are only "classic" in the sense
that they are "classic" examples of gross
directorial/screenwriting incompetence, as well as of
"classic" unintended hilarity that helps to destroy
what small hope there was that this film might be even
- remotely - believable.....in the sense that the first
film was.

The first film had a sense of foreboding, dread, and
real fear about it. This film becomes a jazzed-up live
action version of one of the old Warner Brothers Loony
Tunes cartoons once we get to Skull Island.

Cutting it down to about 2 and 1/2 hours might have
saved it, and Lord knows there was (at least) 40
minutes that could have been cut without anyone
noticing.....

I like Jack Black as a comic, but his attempts to
parrot the lines of the original Carl Denham in the
first Kong movie (particularly) in the finale (you know
"It was beauty that killed the beast") are so wooden,
so awkward, so without emotion, that - even though this
film is in color - they pale by comparison to the
original...

I guess I've figured out why Jackson wanted Black for
the lead male role - he was making a cartoon, so he
naturally wanted an actor who's made a career of
playing over-the-top cartoonish characters....

unfortunately, Kong was the wrong vehicle for that...
