It would have looked like _Archaeopteryx_.
_Protoavis_, incidentally, is a real taxon (although possibly a
chimera of non-avialan parts)."Proavis" is the term coined(?) by
Heilman for the hypothetical bird ancestor (although he considered it
non-dinosaurian).
