ID of the Kong large theropod



I, too, have read accounts of _King Kong_ in which the big theropod was
described as an _Allosaurus_ rather than a _Tyrannosaurus_.  Many years
ago I wrote Ray Harryhausen to ask if he could clear this matter up.  I
think I still have his letter filed away somewhere, but the gist of it
was that in all of Harryhausen's discussions with O'Brien about the
matter, Obie called the beast an Allosaurus.  H told me that O actually
visualized the animal as something like a mixture of the two dinosaurs,
combining the size of a Tyrannosaurus (which O'Brien viewed as slow and
clumsy) with the agility of an Allosaurus.
