Personally, documenting what is alive today and what used to be alive to the
best of our knowledge will allow any further students of Earth's biota and
history less of a trial. The past may help us preserve a certain future, and
this is preferrable than doing nothing.

Little steps are often the hardest to take. We are too used to making leaps
in the face of adversity, that a simple skip is so hard to do. We should all
learn to walk soft, walk small, see the world around us rather than zoom by it.
