Re: nocturnal eyes question



I forgot to mention that owls also have good hearing, which can also help
them locate prey at night.  Again, an animal need not have both acute senses
of night vision and smell to make a go of the night shift.

Another question which fossils may not solve is the ratio of low light
sensitive rods versus color sensitive cones in the retina.  More rods would
imply nocturnal habits; more cones would imply a diurnal lifestyle.
