And when your fraught with 40+ foot theropods[whom, on top of their size, would have probably been hunting them in packs] could 'hack', 'slice', 'crunch', etc, through that neck, holding it high and away from them seems a like good idea . .
Albeit, doesn't draw any correlation to plesiosaurs[ tanystropheus's kin, also] reason for adopting a long neck, as predators can attack it from all directions, as a plesiosaur itself could attack IT'S prey, as well.


If your primary sensory mechanism is visual -- and that seems likely with
sauropods -- and you're a high browser, you may not have any reason to
lower your neck.
