looking for some reading material
Hi there. I am new to the list. I have been searching the past posts and
have not yet found what I am looking for. Just for background, I recently
read Stephen Baxter's fictional novel _Evolution_. In this story, he
suggests that there were many species of dinosaur that existed but were
never fossilized and hence, remain unknown. One example was a creature
called an _airwhale_ which was a monstrous pterydactyl-like creature that
flew high in the sky and never landed, gliding in the high atmosphere. He
also mentioned several species of dinosaur (like a pygmy-tyranosaur) which
lived on the Antarctic continent but were never discovered because the
entire surface was scraped clean by glacial activity. This lead me to read
Powell's work _Night Comes to the Cretaceous_ which I found fascinating. In
this book, he suggested that only a VERY small portion of the total known
species has been studied (he made some reference to the genera and species
ratio being 1:1 which was atypical of current taxonomy (usually, there were
many more species per genus). So, cutting to the chase: I am very interested
in reading scholary opinion (not so much fictional ideas, although they may
be one and the same) about the hypothetical dinosaurs. Is there anything
available that I can read that reviews the _possible dinosaurs_? In
addition, I am reading Leakey's _Sixth Extinction_ and plan on reading _Song
of the Dodo_ (author?). Any other suggestions for extiction opinion?
Thanks
Darrin
