excuse my ignorance, I thought Ankylosaurs were more or less cretaceous.
How can an ankylosaur print date from 170 mya (is that middle Jurassic
Bathonian/Bajocian)?
Ankylosaurs (or putative ankylosaurs) are known from the Middle Jurassic:
_Sarcolestes leedsi_ (Callovian) and _Tianchiasaurus nedegoapeferkima_
(Bathonian/Bajocian).
Several ankylosaur genera are known from the Late Jurassic, including
_Mymoorapelta_ and _Gargoyleosaurus_ from the Morrison Formation, and some
poorly known European taxa such as _Cryptosaurus_ (unnecessarily renamed
_Cryptodraco_), _Priodontognathus_ and _Dracopelta_.
