Unnecessary, overly restrictive, and potentially misleading - Panarthropoda
is at least one example I can think of of a clade that is not merely the
stem group of its root-taxon (Panarthropoda contains Onychophora and
Tardigrada, as well as Arthropoda).
    In this case, the use of the prefix 'Pan-' reflects that the other taxa
were previously included in a taxon 'Arthropoda' that had a wider
interpretation than it does currently, and I would have thought that this
was a more appropriate use of this prefix.
