What annoyed me about the JP3 Spinosaurus was the paired ridges above
the snout. Obviously someone saw a picture of the skull in profile and
mistook the single sagittal crest for a pair or ridges like you might
see on many maniraptors.
Does anyone care to hypothesise on why spinos appear to have single
crests instead of the usual paired variety? Obviously there is a display
component, but could it also have helped strengthen the snout (like
similar ridges on bronze sword and dagger blades)?
