This is no either-or situation. There is sulfur in the impact site
sediments, _and_ there is sulfur in the asteroid.

Why? The _entire_ velocity is annihilated. The _entire_ kinetic energy is
converted to heat, which then produces the explosion that makes the crater
and blows the ejecta all over the globe.
