Michael,

For a good zoological parallel, see the expanded sagittal crest on the skull 
of a modern gorilla.  This, would be far larger than one would see on 
Deinonychus but you'll get the idea.  Also, it would likely not correspond to 
any crest-like feature on a reconstructed skull as if it is truly homologous 
to the sagittal crest, its function would be as a muscle attachment not for 
any display purpose.
