Bainoceratops & other basal neoceratopsians
It was mentioned by T. Michael Keesey a few days earlier that:
The "nasal horn" of _Montanoceratops_ (a leptoceratopsid) actually turned
out
to be a jugal (IIRC) -- so no horns.
Hmm... so does that mean that the previous reconstructions of
_Montanoceratops_ are all false? And does that mean that _Montanoceratops_
would look more like a giant _Leptoceratops_ or _Udanoceratops_? And I do
suppose that _Montanoceratops_ position as a coronosaurian are now not in
favour.
And just a test of my basic osteology... is the jugal the "cheek horn"
thingy present in all ceratopsians?
Anyone know what this _Bainoceratops_ looked like?
