RE: T. rex Predation



I'm surprised that in this whole discussion so far, no one has made anything 
but an oblique reference to Paul's discussion of the "cookie cutter" bite 
technique he presented in PDW, as opposed to the allosaurid/ceratosaurid 
slice method. I also think that tooth size, as well as shape, may have had 
significant bearing on whether a given theropod taxa was a predator that 
killed relatively large prey on a 1:1 basis using a more powerful bite and 
deeper penetration (the huge teeth of Ceratosaurus nasicornis vs. the smaller 
ones of Allosaurus fragilis) or might have one that associated in groups, 
using weaker but nonetheless effective bites that killed the prey through 
attrition. Presently unprovable, of course, but something to consider.
