Paint removal from bones
G'day all,
I'm in the midst of removing some paint from the bones of _Chasmosaurus
belli_ specimens CMN 2245 and CMN 2280, using an acetone solution and
stiff-bristled brushes. I'm trying to determine if the differences in their
robustness might be due in part to the plaster repair work that was done on
these two specimens earlier last century. Needless to say, the process is
slow, painstaking work. Just wondering if there were any other alternatives
to using acetone that might be safe to use on the bone. The said specimens
are both scientifically and historically significant, and obviously need to
be preserved as best as possible.
Thanks.
