Very true.  Eocene polar forests (from that time after the Earth was shot to
hell) were tropical/deciduous.  The trees had very broad leaves, as in modern
rainforests, but lost them during the six-month night they experienced up past
the Arctic Circle.  Remember that the Eocene was actually _warmer_ than the
Cretaceous, so it's perfectly logical to expect the Earth's poles being a bit
chilly.
