Elasmosaur Necks
The article in PT # 53 about elasmosaurs left me a little confused. So
elasmosaur necks were quite inflexible after all. While I'd always felt that
the old reconstructions & paintings were somewhat far-fetched, this now
calls into doubt several of the more 'modern' paintings & models. I suppose
that any picture of an elasmosaur with its neck extended straight ahead is
quite safe, but to what extent could elasmosaurs move their necks? Would it
be somewhat similar to the inflexibility of diplodocid necks? I have
included here a few pictures of elasmosaurs and I hope that everyone here
can help tell me which neck positions are now obsolete and which are still
likely. Thanks!
