A western Queensland grazier who unearthed the remains of Australia's
largest dinosaur hopes his experience will encourage more people to report
fossils finds.
Teams have conducted two excavations on David Elliot's Winton property to
recover the remains of the dinosaur, which he came across in 1999.
Mr Elliot says he knows of numerous other fossil finds in the area that
landholders are afraid to report, for fear their properties will be
locked-up by authorities.
"We decided to go this way...we'd been fairly cagey about it for a long
time, but now we sort of understand that it's quite safe to disclose what
we've got and not have to worry about losing your property and all this
sort of thing that used to be around at the time," he said.
