Actually, tool-making is regular in another crow, the New Caledonian Crow
Corvus moneduloides. I can claim a bit of second-rate renown as the
discoverer of the fact that this crow uses tools - it was the subject of my
first scientific paper - and some decades later a New Zealander, Gavin
Hunt, found that the crows actually make a variety of tools, used to hook
insects out of crevices and hollow limbs.
