Very interesting article. Part of me is furious that something
scientifically valuable may be lost, but at the same time I can't blame the
natives for being stubborn. Payback is hell. There's a great book by Greg
Bear, "Darwin's Radio", that has this sort of thing in it, plus punctuated
equlibrium, perfectly preserved Neandertal remains showing a "speciation
event", a virus that threatens human survival, etc. Highly recommend it.
Couldn't help but notice the name Vine Deloria in the article. Also the
author of "Red Earth, White Lies: Native Americans and the Myth of
Scientific Fact", a creationist, Ted Holden favorite. The book tried to
debunk the theories of the peopling of North America via the Bering Strait
and the overkill of megafauna by natives.
