Cladograms & Factoring
In reviewing my PhyloCode files, I remembered
encountering a perhaps apocryphal story (somehow, as I
recall, connected to fractals, Mandelbrot, and
factoring) of a mathematician who, sitting with a
friend, decided to trade an idea with him. In turn,
the friend shared an idea with him, and both friends
discovered they had three ideas. Is anyone familiar
with this anecdote? It is a marvellous concept, akin
to de Vries's ideas of inherited traits, but I cannot
remember the source.
