Theropod tail flexibility

I posted this a few days ago, but no-one's replied. If anyone's got an opinion or some information, I'd really appreciate it. I'm currently sculpting a Compsognathus and 50cm of tail is proving a real headache.

"Can anyone tell me how flexible the long tails of Compsognathus and Sinosauropteryx are? When doing life restorations of these dino's what kind of tail positions are feasible? (Also, what is the advantage of having a tail longer than the rest of the creature?)

Thanks in advance, your help is always appreciated!"
