Is it the case during wing extension?
The measured feathers (at 25 % away from the tips) are the first and fourth
primaries which are quite oblique. So one should expect them to have an
"aerodynamic shape" for lift, or am I oversimplifying again? :-)

The dumb thing, for me, is that this says next to nothing about underwater
flight. There are no flightless dippers around to measure... Hey, wait, does
someone know about the Galápagos cormorant? Doesn't it have [sub]symmetrical
wing feathers? Or is this false memory?
