First, I would research the skin impressions found with the skeletons.  I
don't know if there's a catalogue of the species found, or a place where
there are pictures easily accessible, but that's hopefully what other
listmembers can contribute to your question.

After that, I would suggest picking up any number of books that simply show
photos of reptile skin and feathers, including kids' books.  I use a lot of
kids' books on animals, actually, because they're short, cheap, and have big
pictures.  Often the pictures are close-up, too.  Also, any wildlife
photography books would help you.  Those are some of the most valuable
sources I use (and I know you've seen my skin texture drawings).  I can get
you some refs at a later point, BTW.
