Re: Gnetophytes & Leaf Warblers
Yesterday Darren Naish asked:
<< One of Heilmann's most famous drawings is of a group of ornithomimids
walking around/feeding from a large plant that looks something like a
_Welwitschia_. Is it a _Welwitschia_ and, if not, what is it? >>
It's a safe bet it was supposed to be Welwitschia, although he
identifies them only as "desert-plants". Interestingly, like so many other
objects he illustrated in _The Origin of Birds_, he created a plasticene
model of the plants first. He was one hell of an artist. DV
