The most recent I've read is:

Carr, Thomas D. 1999. Craniofacial ontogeny in Tyrannosauridae (Dinosauria, 
Coelurosauria). Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology 19(3):497-520.

Carr considers _Nanotyrannus lancensis_ a subjective junior synonym of 
_Tyrannosaurus rex_, on the basis of numerous characters, including the low 
and elongate snout, the presence of immature bone grain on the cortical 
surface of CMNH 7541, separate nasals and frontal, a circular orbit, an 
inflated ectopterygoid, etc.
