Re: Horner on NBC Nightly News

What bothers me is that this scavenging _T. rex_ "theory" is still being
entertained despite the recently described _Edmontosaurus_ skeleton that
preserved healed over _T. rex_ bite wounds (and another rumored
_Triceratops_ fossil that showed the same. Can anyone confirm this?).
That's not to say that the Ol' King didn't scavenge, but the public seems to
take Horner's suggestion exclusively.

Hey,
Jack Horner was featured on NBC Nightly News tonight, in a segment about
"America's top fossil hunter."

Other than another media error (68 million years ago was not the Jurassic
period), all of us who watched were forced to listen to more rehash
regarding the T. rex scavenger hypothesis, once again presented as a "new
theory."

I doubt it is just me, but I sure am getting tired of this. This is not to
say that Horner is wrong (even though I doubt Tyrannosaurus was a full-time
scavanger). I am just fed up with these media reports that parrot this
hypothesis as "startling," "earth-shattering," and "new."

We all certainly know it is not new. There are many more exciting new
discoveries and hypotheses when it comes to theropods. The media should
give this one a rest. Please!

My two cents,
Steve
