new book

I am pleased to announce publication of the latest book in my paleo series for
Indiana University Press, a commemorative edition of Charles R. Knight's _Life
through the Ages_, with a foreward by Stephen Jay Gould and an introduction by
Philip J. Currie. ISBN 0-253-33928-6

With no disrespect intended toward modern paleoartists, it is nonetheless
surely safe to say that Knight has been the most influential artist of ancient
life of all time. Those of us whose interest in paleontology developed in the
1950s or 1960s have all been affected by Knight's work, either in its original
form or in endless "borrowings" in the popular media. Leafing through this new
edition of his book is sure to prompt many happy childhood memories. Those of
you young whippersnappers who came of age in later decades may find it amusing
to own a copy of one of the seminal works of paleoart.

Those of you who are tired of all the fuss about dinosaurs in the media will be
thrilled by the jacket art for this new edition of Knight's work. I'll let you
see what I mean by that for yourselves...
