Not only the size of a fish can sustain a big predator, but abundance can as
well-- among the subspecies of the Brown Bears (Ursus arctos), the Kodiak
subspecies U. arctos middendorfi run larger than the inland races because
the plentitude of salmon makes a much bigger contribution to their protein
intake....
