I haven't written a paper, but if I did, I would email a copy to the
dinosaur mailing list. Crocodiles do have holes for blood vessels also, but this
does NOT mean lack of lips for dinosaurs. My idea is that lips were evolved
early on during archosaur (maybe even reptile) evolution to
conserve moisture. Primitive terrestrial crocodilians had lips as
well. As crocodilians became more aquatic, they lost the need for lips yet the
holes for blood vessels remained. As for dinosaurs, they remained terrestrial
and, therefore, retained
lips. |
