Re: Protoavis
When reading the 'portrait of Protoavis' in Chatterjee's The Rise of Birds,
it seems like virtually the whole skeleton is known...so many disparate
interpretations of the same skeleton, and I would be grateful if a
listmember could explain the basis of the case for the Protoavis remains
being a mixture of different archosaurs jumbled together, and why Protoavis
has remained in this strange position of being generally ignored for so
long.<
For figures and photos, I'd suggest getting
Chatterjee, S. 1999. Protoavis and the early evolution of birds.
Paleontographica Abt.A 254: pp. 100
as HP Olshevsky (sp? Sorry!) recomended. It contatins excelent illustrations
and photographs.
As for an explaination, see my post in response to HP Williams concerning
this. If you would like a little more detailed info, let me know. Hope this
helps!
