Re: New Dromaeosaur Specimen
According to the staff at the AMNH, the specimen will be on display for at least
ONE MONTH.
After that, it will be shipped off to Texas for a CAT scan. Everyone seems a
little bit vague and it may depend upon the availablility of the equipment. The
implication was that it would come back to the AMNH for a while after the
scanning.
I specifically asked Dr.Norell if any analysis has been done of the fossil
material to see what it is composed of, and he answered that no analysis has
been
done, so it's not known (except by visual inspection) exactly what the existing
"teeth" are composed of.
As I understand it, the farmers who found the specimen lucked out and had the
slab split exactly down the longitudinal center of the specimen.
We're planning to post a high resolution scan of the head in the next day or so.
We're working out a technical problem having to do with the file size and will
let y'all know when we're done fussing with it.
