Re: V formations
Herding was definitely a habit with at least some dinosaurs. The V formation
however is used by geese to reduce drag and keep the flock going for longer
periods of time. The lead goose creates an updraft that the others can use to
reduce the amount of energy needed to fly. When the leader gets tired another
goose takes over. I'm not sure this would have any practical use for land
animals. I think that they would probably herd more like today's Wildebeest,
Caribou and Elephants.
