these terms refer to the articular surfaces of vertebral centrae.
Amphiplatyan: flat on both surfaces (anterior and posterior).
Platycoelous: flat on one end, concave on the other.
                     I *think* the flat end is the anterior end, but I can 
never remember
                     for sure.
