Re: Dinos in a haystack

I'm sure I'll get flammed out of the water for this, but I just can't stand
Gould's work. When I read his stuff I just imagine a stuck up jerk who must
use every factiod and $10 word in every article and book he writes to prove
how smart he is. I don't think he *is* a jerk, and I'm not attacking *him*,
mind you. He really seems a pleasant enough fellow and I admire and can
relate to his energy. He subjects seem fun too, but it's really hard for me
to stomach his style!

IMHO, if you don't understand Gould and you are trying to get information,
your time is better spent on something like _The Complete Dinosaur_. Better
yet, start trying to decipher _The Dinosauria_ or papers you may be
interested in. It'll drive you nuts at first, but it gets better over time.

(Did anyone hear Gould at Dinofest '98? Would it be possible for him to
repeat himself a bit more? Geez.)
