RE: PALEONEWS: Maverick dinosaur hunter rewriting the prehistorybooks
Hey,
Tonight there was a nice segment on Sereno on a Chicago news station. Tomorrow
the mounts of Jobaria (two of them) and Afrovenator will be unveiled at the
Children's Museum at Navy Pier. For all of you that are familiar with the
topic, the process of excavating, cleaning, casting, and mounting these bones
has been a very long story, even for paleo standards!
The team almost ran out of money, and Dr. Sereno ran the Chicago Marathon and
won $7500 for his efforts. Many of you probably voted for him in the online
poll a few months back. He won the internet vote by about 10%!
Anyway, Suchomimus is also on display at Navy Pier, and the exhibit (although
meant for children) is excellent. Jobaria, from the news reports, looks even
better, so if any of you live near Chicago I urge you to get out there.
Oh, yeah, and for your info, the report mentioned that "Dr. Sereno has found
several new dinosaur species," but did not mention Herrerasaurus or Eoraptor!
