I was always given to understand that the problem
with private fossil collectors was that they withheld information from
scientific study and I've told people this who've asked in the past.
Following Dan Varner's comments (not attacking you Dan, just trying to
understand) I see that there is more to it than this. Surely if they are
handing out information on a platter it is a good thing - ok maybe Sue Yosser is
right and it is an UNWISE thing for them to do as far as they are concerned
(ideas being ripped off before they've had a chance to study it themselves;
things being published by other sources treating the evidence as shareware etc)
but does that really mean it's something the rest of us need worry about - it is
their decision isn't it? Or is there a bigger picture here?
Yours sincerely,
Sam
