Re:Spilling the Dino Beans
Sue Yosser asks:
"Dumb question: Is the early dissemination of photos of a unique and
important specimen that will *undoubtably* be published at a later date a
smart thing for the research team to do?? (I mean "smart" from a
professional point of view). I have never heard of other dinosaur
scientists "spilling the beans" so early in the process, hence my question."
Answer: The people presenting this information are not "professional"
paleontologists but are, rather, commercial fossil dealers. They are not
obligated to operate by any stardards or ethics (as stated by SVP)
whatsoever. Anything goes-and probably will. Adding to the hype surrounding
the specimen only makes good business sense. Dan Varner.
