Spilling the Dino Beans (Was Re: An interesting photo)
Hmmm...
I'm a bit confused, and I hope someone can answer my question.
Traditionally, such important bits of new scientific data (such as the
photos on Steve Brusett's web page and Martin Barnett's ("Sam"'s) web page)
are *withheld* from public scrutiny (called "embargoing")until after or just
before official publication in a scientific journal has taken place.
Dumb question: Is the early dissemination of photos of a unique and
important specimen that will *undoubtably* be published at a later date a
smart thing for the research team to do?? (I mean "smart" from a
professional point of view). I have never heard of other dinosaur
scientists "spilling the beans" so early in the process, hence my question.
P.S. No offense intended to either Steve or Martin(Sam). I am only
questioning the motivations of the research team who has released the (very
interesting)tyrannosaurid photos to these gentlemen.
P.P.S. And I'm not sorry that I viewed the photos either! Great stuff!

Well, it's a new year and I'm still going on about the same thing - the new
rex find. Anyone interested in seeing a picture forwarded to me by Mike
showing some of the differences between Tinker's teeth and the "Nano" teeth
at the site, should visit
http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Hangar/6878/mathenyintervue.html
Scroll down to the bottom for the picture. I'm quite pleased at getting
hold of this one for (until Greg Tarrallo adds it to the Tinker site) it's
an exclusive!
Happy new year all,
Sam
