It would seem to me to mean "Achilles' stepper" (-bator < Greek "baino" [I 
go, I step], stem "ba-" + -tor [agent suffix], rather than Mongolian "baatar" 
[hero, warrior]).  

It made more sense in a previous name for the animal, "Aristobator" IIRC, 
which would mean "very high stepper".

That's my guess.
