Millennium Dinosaur (was Fwd: dino run web site)
Those who would like to help support the preparation, mount and
exhibit of Paul Sereno's new sauropod, called the Millennium
Dinosaur, are invited to visit: http://dinosaur.uchicago.edu - "Make
Tracks for the New Millennium Dinosaur!"
Dr. Sereno will be running in the Chicago Marathon on October 24
to help finance this exciting new paleo project. Pledges are welcome
and encouraged (there is a downloadable pledge form on the website).
The dinosaur is nearly 60 feet long and 13 feet high at the hip. The
130 million year old fossil was found in the Sahara Desert in West
Africa and represents a new species of sauropod. The official name
will be announced in November 1999. The new dinosaur will be on
display in January 2000 at Navy Pier in Chicago. This undertaking is
part of the new non-profit organization Project Exploration, set up by
Dr. Sereno and Gabrielle Lyon to provide funding for education,
exhibits and a dinosaur lab.
More information on the marathon run can be found at
http://www.dinorun.org and on Project Exploration at
