feet and toe's

List-members (especially Matt Bonnan),

Last week I took a ride in an elevator, bored as I could have been. It was a
type of elevator which has no door in front so you can see the wall in front of
you 'going down'. I pretended my hand were theropod feet and made my tracks on
the wall. I
noticed however that the last part of my hand leaving the wall were my fingers.
So, after this short introduction let me ask my question:
Is there a relation between the possible running speed of a theropod and the
size/shape/etc of it's toe's? Or maybe it's feet? I know there is a relation
between the size of the bones in the legs and the angle between them, but what
about toe's? As far
as I know the last part leaving the ground when running (or walking for that
matter) are the toe's...
And Matt, I at least expect a reply from you because you've been challenging us
about more thoughts on feet. I made a complete fool of myself today running and
walking barefoot in our new 3 million dollar laboratory to clarify my ideas to
my ever curious
(and grinning) collegues... :-)
