Yes, but for them to live there, you need ground that isn't molten and hasn't
been vaporised.
A moonstrike provides a LOT of energy, and a strike from a moonsized interloper
(which is what
you describe) provides far more. Expect whatever survives of the earth to be
molten to the
core.
